I’ve lived in Calgary now for 5 wonderful years. During this time, I’ve so enjoyed exploring all that the city t has to offer and have developed a pretty great list of go-to places around the city. Many of these places on my list revolve around coffee and good food so, in no particular order, I’ve put together a list of my face coffee stops in and around #YYC (all have delicious food, too!)
When I want to sneak away from the world and enjoy some quiet solitude, chances are I’ll be at Annie’s Bakery in Fish Creek Park. They serve Phil & Sabastian coffee (one of my other favorite coffee stops in #YYC), but really it is the beautiful, peaceful surroundings of the park as well as the rustic charm of the café that keeps me coming back. Annie’s is open year round and is just as perfect on warm sunny morning as it is on a crisp fall afternoon; I could (and often do) stay for hours!
Another great coffee spot in the city is Angel’s Cappuccino & Ice Cream. I was first introduced to Angel’s only last year, after getting into road biking and exploring the Bow River Pathway/ Edworthy Park on a road ride date night with my love (it’s a perfect spot for a date!). Angel’s is just the cutest little café; with its down to earth vibe and tasty treats and beautiful views of the Bow river, it’s a perfect place for a pit stop if you’re out for stroll or bike ride. Your soul gets to savor the view, while your mouth savors the goodness of coffee, ice cream or and/or desserts.
One of my other favorite café’s not fare from Angel’s is the Lazy Loaf & Kettle. Lazy Loaf is cozy little café full of delicious old fashioned cinnamon buns, homemade soups and sandwiches, and fresh baked bread just like your Grandma would make! (Seriously, the bread though…)
When I’m not in Calgary (I spend many of my weekends in Canmore & Banff exploring our beautiful backyard: the Rocky Mountains), my mountain go-to’s at the top of my list are Mountain Mercato (Canmore) and Wild Flower Bakery (Banff). Wild Flower is cozy and rustic and is perfectly tucked away from the busy main street in Banff; they have an amazing selection of soups and sandwiches and again, THE BREAD! (I think you can see the theme here?? Lol!). And last, but definitely not least, I love, love, love Mountain Mercato. Located on Main Street in Canmore, MM is unlike any other café or restaurant in town. Here you can enjoy AMAZING food (it’s co-owned by a truly talented Red Seal chef), a glass of wine or a cup of coffee while soaking in the European vibe that it offers. If you go, try one of everything 😉
Ok, now I am seriously hungry and craving something from each one of these delicious little places. I hope you enjoy them all as much as I do!
