Have you ever wondered how you could make an impact on the lives of others? Or if there’s a way for you to celebrate the achievements you’ve made? WE Day is the “Academy Awards for real people who are making a difference”. It celebrates the actions young people have made towards making the world a better place and encourage future actions.

WE Day in Calgary took place on Oct. 26, 2016 at the Scotiabank Saddledome. You can’t buy tickets to this event – individuals must perform one global and one local action to create change to be invited to be part of this inspirational day. Motivational speakers and founders Craig and Marc Kielburger were there to start the day off with a bang. Throughout the event, other speakers and performers such as Chris Hadfield, Brett Kissel and Rick Hansen spread messages of empowerment to young change-makers.

WE Day is an initiative of the WE Movement, which Craig Kielburger founded when he was only 12 years old. The idea thrived with the help of his older brother Marc and encourages other young people to make a difference. By inspiring the youth of today, WE Day helps create influential leaders in global change.

How can you get involved with WE Day now that the event has passed? For every person that makes the WE Pledge online, a supporter of the WE Movement will donate $10 to WE Charity programs. Developing schools in less-fortunate areas, providing clean drinking water and ending child labour are just some of the ways this pledge will help the world. ME to WE products are available for purchase online and in many stores; the profits also go towards WE Charity campaigns. Become change-makers locally or globally to make a lasting impact in our world and to be part of WE Day 2017.
