The Calgary Flames are facing the Anaheim Ducks in the 1st round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Flames face off against a Ducks team that has dominated them in recent years, but you can be assured that the Calgary squad won’t be backing down easily.
With a 1-4-0 record against the Ducks this season, and a 25-game losing streak at the Honda Center, the Flames aren’t going to have it easy. To defeat this big and bruising Ducks team in a seven-game series, the Flames will have to learn how to win at the Honda Center. While their record-breaking streak of futility in Anaheim has caught the attention of fans across the NHL, the Flames themselves aren’t paying any attention.
This series has all the potential to be one for the ages. The Flames and Ducks racked up penalty minutes and fights in a chippy 3-1 Ducks win on April 4, and you can expect Micheal Ferland and Matthew Tkachuk of the Flames to yet again be at the centre of any post-whistle scrums.
The Flames and Ducks also have quite the playoff history as well. After a cinderella run to the playoffs in 2015, and a 4-2 series victory over the Vancouver Canucks, the Flames faced the Anaheim Ducks in the 2nd round. While the Flames had a remarkable 4-3 overtime victory in game 3, the Ducks prevailed 4-1 in the series. With many current players on both teams having played in that series, the bad blood won’t take long to boil over.
The puck drops for game one of what is guaranteed to be an entertaining series at 8:30pm tonight. Don’t miss a moment.
Stay tuned for our post-game recap and following previews if the Flames advance!
