Deerfoot Drive-In Theatre is Back

The Deerfoot Mall Drive-In series is back for 2015. Admission is FREE and the gates will be opening at 5 PM. Crafts and other entertainment will be setup for the children to enjoy until the movies actually start when the sun goes down around 9:30 PM with the sound broadcasting through FM radio.

Previous Calgary Drive-In movies at Deerfoot Mall in the past have included “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”, “Back To The Future” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, many of these being classics we all know and love to this day.

The dates have been announced for the Drive-In at Deerfoot Mall as follows:

July 29 – Jurassic Park
August 5 – Indiana Jones: Raiders Of The Lost Ark
August 12 – Finding Nemo
August 19 – E.T.
August 26 – Viewer’s Choice (polls open July 20)

While the movies are free, the team from Brown Bagging It for Calgary’s Kids will be collecting donations at the gate so be sure to throw them a little something.

One of the biggest reasons Canadian cities started seeing the downfall of Drive In theatres is because of the severe weather that inhibited their abilities to stay open during the winter months. Developers saw much more lucrative ways of using the large spaces of land they took up. As cities grew and grew, Drive Ins depleted until they were nearly extinct with only 13 left by 2003.

The Deerfoot Mall Drive-In is sure to be a grand ol’ time, so mark it in your smart phone calendar, or actual calendar if you still have one and be sure to drive on down for your favorite classic on these dates.
