Beakerhead, the creative clash of science, art and engineering that draws over 40 thousand Calgarians to the main event (Beakernight) is back again. This year’s edition has multiple set throughout the city to enjoy between September 13th – 17th. Here’s a few of our favourite events and installations happening this year!

Beakernight (September 16th only)

Experience fire, lasers, music, experiences, performances and multiple installations that will light up science’s biggest street party across Fort Calgary and the River Walk!

When: September 16, 7 PM – 11 PM
Where: Fort Calgary and East Village River Walk
Cost: Admission via donation!

This musical installation invites you to sit inside an illuminated cylinder two metres in diameter, where your motion will activate this retro-futuristic mechanism, causing beautiful images inspired by 13 fairy tales to come to life.

When: September 13-17
Where: East Village Riverwalk (6 Ave and 6 St SE)

Night Light Walking Tour

Buckle up your astronaut boots and join in on this guided tour of Beakerhead’s engineered artworks, as you cover approximately 2 kilometres touring various destinations in the Snakes and Ladder game.

When: September 14 – 16, 7 PM – 10 PM
Where: Eau Claire Market (200 Barclay Parade SW)

Enoch Park Bunnies

Explore Enoch Park with seven baby bunny designs that sing with toy bell sounds, and shine from within through dynamic, coloured lighting effects.

When: September 13 – 17
Where: Enoch Park 314 (12 Avenue SE)
Cost: FREE!


Experience the Bow River in a whole new wave with this artistic and interactive experience. See the river. Play the river. Illuminated, interactive shapes stretch out on a 200-metre gravel beach created by the 2013 flood waters.

When: September 13-16, 5 PM – 10 PM, September 17, 10 AM – 6 PM
Where: Bow River Walk (East of the Centre Street Bridge)

Serpent Mother

Ssssssssstretching 168 feet long and with 40 pillars of fire, Serpent Mother by San Francisco’s Flaming Lotus Girls is the most literal of snakes in Snakes and Ladders – and she takes the cake for the fieriest presenter to date.

When: Fire shows will run at the following times

Witness 5,000 white balloons spilling out of a building!

Adults Only Night: Hack It

Hacking is the art of making something the way you want it, instead of the way it is. Instead of hacking electronics or toys, experience hacking your life and your mood.

When: September 14, 6 PM – 10 PM
Where: Telus Spark (220 St. Georges Drive NE)
Cost: $19.95


Staggered along the RiverWalk, overlooking the Bow, are 15 giant teeter-totters featuring sounds, lights and most importantly, fun!

When: September 13-17
