This laid-back restaurant with a west-facing patio at the exciting crossing of 20 St. and 34 Ave. S.W. With an extravagant American-drawn menu, it’s a marvelous place to soak up the afternoon sun with friends or salvage the last few rays of the day with a refreshing sangria.
Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters
This “patio,” is perfect if you want to just spend a day off with some friends casually. Basically a small group of tables placed on the sidewalk, Phil & Sebastian’s outdoor area is laid-back and easygoing. It’s on the cool shaded area of the north side of 33 Ave. S.W. with the hustle and bustle of pedestrians to watch, dogs to pat and an endless supply of energizing espresso.
The Trop Bar and Grille
Recently known as the Tropicana, this welcoming, busy pub on the corner of 14 St. and 34 Ave. S.W. is a little off the map for Marda Loop, but well worth the stroll. It’s the staple of comfort food. It has a petite, nonchalant patio where you can order from an array of beers to compliment a welcoming waffle poutine or a light thin-crust pizza.
Inserted around the corner on Garrison Gate, this a more sophisticated new French restaurant with no standard menu, instead serving a fixed price five-course or three-course menu with optional wine pairings. Dishes change daily depending on what fresh ingredients are available, from duck and barley to quince and carrots, and there’s a little sidewalk patio with ambiance driven from France — just like the menu.
The Avenue Deli patio consists of an array of picnic tables shaded umbrella, not to mention the pleasant “Meat to Please You” sign hovering over. It’s a great place to endulge into their popular Boss Cut, 10 oz of Montreal smoked meat on rye, my personal favorite. Choose from a variery of seven different mustards and wash it all down with a decadent ApplePie milkshake.
